We put people to work.

During these times of economic crisis it has become difficult for people to find employment opportunities. Communities that have high unemployment rate can potentially become gravely damaged and even destroyed. Understanding the severity of this matter, Near West Side CDC (Near West) has made efforts to provide opportunities for West Haven residents to work, learn a trade, and seek further education. Many of these programs have been successful, but the current collaboration with the Put Illinois to Work program has been a success story with many layers unfolded. Continue…

White Sox Charity Event Becomes ‘Chance of a Lifetime’

“This whole day was a chance of a lifetime”, said Jabril Burpo. Jabril is one of the West Haven’s Giants chosen to be in attendance for the White Sox Community Fund Check Presentation Ceremony held at U.S. Cellular Field on May 3rd. The West Haven Giants were one of the chosen recipients of a baseball grant given by White Sox Charities. “This was nice. It really keeps kids like me motivated and doing something constructive. This project was launched in 2006 by the City of Chicago Dept. of Planning and Development with the support of the Regional Transportation Authority to identify and prioritize transit and retail improvements that would better support the residents and businesses in and surrounding communities impacted by the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan for Transformation..
